NEWCASTLE Australia

The Ultimate Study Abroad Experience

Very few places on Earth boast such perfect positioning along the coast. As the only city in Australia with its Central Business District situated both on the beach and the harbor waterfront, Newcastle features a cosmopolitan vibe along some of the continent’s most sought-after real estate. Surfers from around the world regularly descend upon its beaches to participate in one of the world’s top surfing competitions and even for those who don’t know a “barrel” from a “curl,” Newcastle is a laidback paradise for beach-goers. Besides boasting a favorable climate, the city offers students a vibrant nightlife, keeping you active day and night! Take some time to soak in your surroundings with a trip to the lookout at Bar Beach, the city’s highest point and a mecca for hang gliders.

The TEAN orientation was nothing short of incredible! It was my first 5 days in Australia, and there was no better way to get adjusted and meet new people. Everyday we did something that I knew was a once in a lifetime experience. From climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge, to taking a dinner boat cruise past the Opera House, it was all so surreal. Seeing all the famous beaches in Sydney and spending nights exploring Sydney’s bustling streets and bars were only part of why I loved orientation so much. I met friends that I kept in touch with my entire time in Australia. What an amazing way to start off my adventure!
