NEW BGDU
Program Overview
University of Kentucky students can study at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), globally recognized for its focus on technology and design. RMIT’s main campus is located in the heart of Melbourne in the midst of galleries, restaurants and shops. Students enjoy all the benefits associated with studying in the lively Central Business District. RMIT has a reputation for providing practical education, training and research. Programs are developed in consultation with industry to ensure graduates are employable. Ranked as the number one school in Australia for Art and Design by the QS World University Rankings, and considered in the world’s top 100 universities in Art and Design; Architecture; Engineering (Civil and Structural; Electrical and Electronic; and Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing); Computer Science; and Business and Management Studies, which is AACSB accredited. RMIT University has three campuses in Melbourne with most TEAN students based on the main city campus, located downtown on the north edge of Melbourne’s Central Business District. It is easily accessible by tram and train from any point in greater Melbourne. The sights and sounds of the artistic city of Melbourne spill onto the urban city campus and reveal the slightly chaotic charm of RMIT, with its blend of colors and styles and traditional and modern architecture. RMIT University is located in a vibrant part of Melbourne. For more information about RMIT, including blog posts and instragram photos from past participants, follow this link.

At RMIT, UK students will have access to all of the institutions schools and departments, including Design and Social Context, Business and Science, Engineering and Health.

The Bluegrass Down Under portfolio allows students to access coursework in many subjects - from computer science to zoology - while providing the opportunity to engage Australian culture. Australia boasts one of the more interesting demographic landscapes in the world - for example, the urban centers of Sydney and Melbourne have populations of upwards of 4 million people and see a great deal of international traffic, while other parts of the outback are sparsely populated. Add in the presence of an aboriginal culture that has existed for over 50,000 years, and Australia becomes an exciting opportunity for intercultural collaboration and academic learning.

RMIT1Highlights
- Automatic $1,200 fee reduction for UK students!
- Take a full semester load of courses in subjects ranging from accounting to urban planning.
- Students are in a unique academic and social environment surrounded by galleries, an eclectic array of restaurants, the State Library of Victoria, Queen Victoria Market and more.
- Take advantage of excursions to New Zealand, Thailand, Aussie Rules football matches, and more!

Academic Credit
Students will earn transfer credit from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. For all successfully completed courses, the credit hours, course title and course equivalency will be indicated on the UK transcript. Students must complete the coursework during this program according to the established guidelines by RMIT. The grades earned will be important to progression in future academic endeavors, including graduate or professional school; however the grades earned will NOT be indicated on the UK transcript. For more information visit the UK Education Abroad Academic Credit website.
  • For those courses without predetermined equivalencies, PRIOR to participating on this program, students must complete an Academic Approval Form (AAF). The AAF indicates how the course will be used, or course equivalency, once they are transferred back to UK. Instructions on how to complete the AAF are included in application materials.
  • Upon completion of the term abroad, the transcript should be sent to the UK Education Abroad office. Once received, Education Abroad staff will facilitate the transfer of credits to UK.
  • All students will be enrolled in EAP 599: Study Abroad (1 credit hour) at UK during their term abroad.
Student Life
Students attending RMIT have the option to live in purpose-built student accommodation in the city, close to all the action and within walking distance to campus. Local TEAN staff arrange various activities during the semester designed to help immerse students into the local culture. In addition, if students have a specific interest or hobby, the TEAN Resident Director will be able to point them in the right direction.
